Abstract

Objective To compare the image quality of SS-EPI and RS-EPI with different b value and the effect of displaying rectal cancer lesions, and to select the best b value in the clinical DWI test. Methods 48 patients with rectal adenocarcinoma underwent single-shot echo-planar imaging (SS-EPI) with a b value of 1000 s/mm2 and segmented read-out echo-planar imaging (RS-EPI) with multiple b values. The image quality and lesion signal were compared.Intensity grading, measuring and comparing tumor signal-to-noise ratio (SNR),contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR),signal-intensity ratio (SIR) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) at different b values. Results The image quality scores of S1000,R1000,R2000,and R3000 were significantly different (P<0.001),and the image quality score of R1000 was the highest, and the image quality score of R3000 was the lowest. In R1000,R2000,and R3000 images, the number of type Ⅰ gradually decreased, the number of type Ⅱ gradually increased, and type Ⅲ only existed in R2000 and R3000; when the b value was 1000,the SNR,CNR,and SIR of RS-EPI were higher than those of SS-EPI.With comparing SNR,CNR,S1000、R1000、R2000、R3000 has statistically significance. There was no statistic difference between S1000 and R1000、R2000 in SIR.And difference among all b values for ADC were statistic different, except for S1000 and R1000. Conclusion In DWI images with b values of 1000,2000 and 3000 s/mm2,when b=1000 s/mm2,the image quality of RS-EPI is the best, and when the b value is also 1000 s/mm2,RS-EPI shows rectal cancer lesions with excellent on SS-EPI.
